12 Business Success Principles

12 Business Success Principles. Certainly, there are a lot of self-help books for business to read and over the years I have read many. My most recent, Organic Networker is a self-help for business written by Kosta Gara. Specifically, I have included Self-improvement books in my life. These books allow me to dream, focus and just better myself. My journey, “minding my own online business,” and “pay it forward” are improved by following these 12 Business Success Principles.

My Journey

With my online business, I was exposed to more self-help books for business. I was always saying, “There is always room for improvement.” This book gave me 12 Business Success Principles in the first chapter!

12 Business Success Principles - 12 Business Success Principles can be represented by this clock's Roman Numerals and is the basis for self-help for Business.

Cetainly, as I thought of these 12 Business Success Principles, I was reminded of a clock and its twelve hours. Time is definitely a precious commodity, so, in order to “mind my business” this set of 12 Business Success Principles has become the 12 Roman Numerals of Success visible on the clock.

Pay It Forward

As I started my own journey, my blog site, Nola’s Global Skies was also just started. When I opened the book I had received, I saw a way to encourage myself to become more business-minded.

In addition, besides having a new group of friends and learning a new business, I want to “pay it forward” so each person can apply these 12 Business Success Principles and have their own personal growth and success!! To all, SUCCESS!

I. Readiness = Preparation + Organization.

Accordingly, as you work, there are things that have to happen first. Therefore, nothing starts until you do. So, think of it as putting a key (your effort) into a locked door to open the door. Also, give yourself time to put things in a priority list. It definitely works more smoothly. As a first-time business owner, it felt like trying to organize a gymnastics routine. First, I needed to know the terminology, then the correct execution of the move and finally, I could “glue it altogether” into a finished routine. I definitely have much to learn!

II. Discipline = Focus + Dedication.

This is action-oriented, plus you need to give this 110 percent. Further, if you do only half the work, you receive only half the benefit. For me, the hardest part of this Principle was focus. What I finally did was list what needed to be done. I know, it was just like the nose on my face. Right there.

But, this was my first lesson in asking my Instructor questions. I had many, too. I wrote down the answers, too. Progress! Obviously, do all the work and you receive all the benefits. Go for it! I was still living on the farm, so after feeding the animals (after getting off work), I was able to dedicate some time for this business.

III. Organization = Preparation + Diligence.

Are you able to see through fog? Likewise, neither can I. As you plan your vacation, you know exactly where you’re going, staying and returning. Every night, I was still in the “I will try to work on my business.” This, I discovered, was not the optimum business path. I was not happy with my results, either. When I read this Principle, I realized I wasn’t applying any diligence to my efforts. (diligence = working carefully and having regular effort). (Ugh!) Improvement was necessary.

IV. Consistency = Commitment + Discipline.

This is where I was lacking–consistency. I was working, but my organization wasn’t “up to snuff.” Translated, that meant that I still didn’t have the business mindset yet. I had to think about this one. Finally, I thought about when you start a fire, you have committed yourself to an action. Furthermore, an Online Business is the same. Put blinders on, if you have to, to accomplish your goal. Afterwards, you are “cooking.”

Additionally, you begin to feel successful and more confident through your efforts. I pulled out my list and added the word “consistency” to it. I also remembered how I had learned that gymnastics routine. Practice every day, because I was going to be graded on it. So, yes, my blog needed consistency to accomplish my goals. My business mindset was being molded.

V. Initiative = Passion + Action.

When I think of passion, I like to think of Aretha Franklin singing. Her passion for singing is very evident. Is your business your song? Do you have the urgency to “Do It Now!”? Did I want to continually feed farm animals the rest of my life and not work on my blogging? Not really. I had already envisioned THE DREAM of travel to my family’s roots in the Isle of Man! So, I put these two words together and came up with passionate action. I was ready for the next one, now.

VI. Persistence = Vision + Willpower.

I think the best way to describe this principle is “Never Give Up!” Therefore, no matter what lumps may come your way, always move forward to accomplish your dreams that transform into goals with a deadline. As I moved closer to my goals, I found out something else. Changes in your life can happen. It did in mine. My landlady became ill just after I retired and I became the unofficial caretaker. I decided to be persistent in reaching my goal. I only had about 20 pages to modify and I was too close to quit.

VII. Patience = Endurance + Vision.

Besides, I remembered a speech I had heard. This successful individual had said something about an 18-month time-line when starting a new job. My 18-months time-line wasn’t even close. I stayed, committed. Similar to planting a garden, it takes endurance of effort plus envisioning your end result. I know of no plant that produces fruit in a week. As you learn and grow your craft, you will want to bring others with you to this land of opportunity. Pick wisely, with patience. Give them time to grow, just as you have been given. In addition, their success will be your reward!

VIII. Relationship = Communication + Connection.

12 Business Success Principles--Business associates communicate between English and French languages.

Have you heard of Nola’s Global Skies? That is the name of my website to show how business communication and technology (from the printing press to now) gives me the opportunity to expand globally. This is one way I can pay it forward. Where else can you translate languages, cross borders or oceans and offer benefits to other cultures and people? Thus, you may even have the opportunity to become bi-lingual with your new friends. A new way for you to communicate and a wonderful connection between people!

IX. Wisdom = CANEI + Willingness.

The acronym of CANEI is perfect. Based in the Japanese culture, the English version is: Constant and Never-Ending Improvement. Gara refers to it as an “upward spiral of improvement.” The hitch?

  • be willing to improve
  • be responsible
  • Improve your life

Just how can you do this? Take the “baby-step level goals” and accomplish them. Then, give yourself another bigger goal. Accomplish that one, too. Also, lose the negatives to make room for the positives. It takes effort to groove yourself into the “positive side of life.” Find reinforcement from others who have been down the road you are now traveling. They understand just where you are. Your business mindset has grown, too.

X. Leadership = Reliablity + Wisdom.

Do you know people who want to fulfill their dreams? Do they even dare to dream? For some, dreaming is hard, maybe even a waste of time. But, if done properly with the right tools, guidance and support, then people are able to fulfill their dreams and control their lives. The way to do this is to be better every day, be reliable every day, and (of course) “be the best you can be” every day. It may be only 1 thing that you do better (getting up that half-hour early) the next day, but you can do it! It takes time and effort to succeed. Depend on yourself and you will find others will depend on you.

XI. Respect = Wisdom + Open-Mindedness.

This is actually for all others you add to your team. Each person has their own strength. You find and respect their individual strength, too. Your own leadership, honesty and integrity are the elements in this formula. Since you are “further down the road than they are,” you have the wisdom. Always lead with kindness. Be open-minded and flexible when dealing with people. Add that honesty and integrity to improve yourself. Also, as you help others in their growth and success, they help your own growth and success. My sports friend says, “Win-Win!” This exemplifies the business mindset.

XII. Humility = Values + Self-Awareness.

This last Principle is self-appraisal. Check yourself out in the plus and minus categories of these 11 other Business Success Principles. How do you interact with others? Can you go from being emotional (passion is different) to being more professional? Does your tone of voice change with your attitude? Mine does. Be self-aware. It works to help you succeed. This self-appraisal gives us the roadmap, but be aware of your own barriers.
