Get out of your way takes practice. it is also influenced by what you “feed your brain” and your actions or reactions to what is happening to you previously in life and now. The biggest hurdle that I have learned to overcome is the negative past that keeps intruding into my mind, trying to overtake my present life.
Practice a New Routine to Get Out Of Your Way
Here’s what I say, “Practice, because this is a new routine which you find easy to resist. Your mind wants the negative past because it is more comfortable and you enjoy the sensation. But, when it is in your mind, you have two choices. The first impulse is to keep the “old routine” and throw out the “new routine.” You do this just because it “feels right.”
“This “old routine” will not accomplish that goal you have written down. It will not change anything. Think of it as a dandelion that keeps growing up in your garden. Every year that tap root grows a little longer and stronger. It never leaves, but returns. It also detracts from the look of the garden. What would you do?”
“Don’t you spray weed killer on it? That’s what I would do. So, do the reverse of the “easy old way” and embrace that “new routine” with all the gusto you have. That’s when that dandelion withers and dies and is replaced with something that blooms, grows and is worth tending. Now, your mindset is changing.”
Get Out Of Your Way and Kill the Dandelion
My team member Sam said, “I see the problem. I see the weed killer solution, but I don’t see where this can be done with the thoughts in my brain. Do you have a way to “get out of your way” so I can achieve the goals that I have set? I don’t seem to be able to do that practice thing! And make it easy, too.”
I borrowed an idea from Natalie Ledwell and called the “old routine” your own “mind movies.” I told Sam I keep playing them because it is comfortable. They are mine, that is what defines me. Now, I realize that I have been dragging myself down with those events. No wonder things never change for me! So, I asked Sam, “Is this you right now?”
“Yes,” slowly Sam’s face changes, then he asks of me, “Do you have a solution?” Smiling, I told him my friend suggested it. He said, “MCRC (Manifest, Claim, Receive, Celebrate) your problem.” I started doing that, but just like a dandelion, those “mind movies” of mine have a long tap root. The solution is, when I start to “play” that movie again, I tell myself to STOP.”
He continued my thought saying, “I know! Then I play a new substitute movie from my new world. I know, it is called focus, but that is what everyone calls get out of your way.”
It was my turn to say, “Now, take that eraser and clear that white board with a swipe to think, write, grow, or do a new story line for yourself, because that has been your choice to grow something else besides dandelions! My choice is our proven system that allows us to dream.”
Accomplish Your Goal
I add, “It’s also called ‘a HUGE step in the right direction!’ MCRC. I believe this helps so many things that we deal with day in and day out. This negative past is no longer a part of my mindset. It is very important that I change my mindset. Let’s answer the question, ‘Who is really in charge of all this negative feedback?'”
“The answer is, it is your subconscious mind. You have already plotted the path that your memory is going to take. Put up a “STOP” sign and provide a detour to travel to a better destination. Keep your goal foremost in your mind and repeat it often until your subconscious mind accepts the reality of your positive affirmation. Change takes effort.”
“Or, you could find a trigger word (like STOP) to use to modify that negative past. Maybe imagine yourself crossing the stage to be presented with the award you just received. But, make it something positive that aligns with your new mindset. Keep that image fresh in your mind, too.”
Practice and Encouragement
“Further, practice. There’s that word again. How many years have you had those negative thoughts and reactions in your own “mind movie”? All your life? Maybe it really is time to change for the better. The best place to get out of your way is with your mindset. How ‘dyed in the wool’ are you? Are you willing to keep those negative things that happened in your life? Don’t they keep you on the negative side of life?”
“You are now in this new situation because you recognize that you needed a change. Start with your mind! Then, continue with your new actions, including that positive self-talk called positive affirmations. Add the MCRC and practice it!”
“In addition, encouragement will make all the difference. Whether it comes from a friend that has the same mindset as you, a book that you read for your own information, or studying and working on the new program that you have just acquired, it is a change for the better. MCRC makes the goals that much easier to reach, too.”
Get out of your way clears and changes the road you are traveling from snarling switchbacks to a pleasurable drive toward your plane ride which soars into the gorgeous heavens above. This is my new “mind movie” for myself. I enjoy the journey that I planned for myself!
