Rank Math Rules 0-100 Possibilities with articles, media usage and keywords (all types), which are ingredients in the mix. There are two choices available, Free and Pro and it’s a WordPress SEO plugin with powerful features in its Free version.
The Free version is the one that is discussed here. Its dashboard on the right is easy-to-follow and helps guide the beginning blogger up to the more experienced blogger. With four different sections, the Free Version has a category setup easily understood and user-friendly for your writing. Improve your website’s profile by following Rank Math guidelines, giving you increases of both traffic and optimization which uses ranking possibilities.
Understanding the Dashboard
Go up to the right side of your own page. Click on the rectangle with numbers. This does two things. First, it opens the right-side menu. Below that box, you see a colored blue line; a Preview section; a blue box with “Edit Snippet” in it and beneath that you will find the Focus Keyword section. Under that, you will find four Main Sections that will indicate whether you “did not do” (pink) or you “did do” (green) circles. These Sections are:
- Section One is Basic SEO (Search Engine Optimization) with 6 different sub-sections. Your Focus Keyword is very important, because that is the main subject of your page. As you begin writing about your subject, the circles change from an “x” (pink in color) to a “check” (green in color).
- Section Two is labeled Additional. It uses the same circle-changes in the list of 9 items. This is the area that you find the categories of Keyword Density, internal and external links. (The Keyword discussion will be later in this article.)
- Section Three is Title Readability. Although consisting of only four sub-sections, it’s the first thing your reader sees. These four guidelines assure that you will have an interesting title.
- In Section Four Content Readability refers to the format of your page. The Free level will indicate whether a Table of Contents is used in your page, the use of short paragraphs and images and videos. We don’t use the Table of Contents within our pages.
Now, if you go back and left-click on the first box, it will exit out of the right-side menu. But, you should see numbers that look like a fraction: 25 / 100, which is the SEO score system for this program. It starts at 0 and goes up to 100. This box is color-coded on three levels:
- Red (0-50)–needs more work
- Yellow (51-80)–improved, but still more work
- Green (81-100)–information that has good visibility and ranking in search engines. This is referred to as “optimization.”
Rank Math Rules 0-100 Possibilities in Content Optimization
How do you manage this? The sections of “Edit Snippet” and “Focus Keyword” are basically a “fill-in-the-blanks.”
As you write and increase the total words on your page, your score should change. Your first 160 characters are in the Description Box under Edit Snippet. You may want to make the Edit Snippet different than the first 160 characters (spaces included) of your first paragraph. That’s Okay. The Permalink is your title, with dashes instead of spaces, also in the Edit Snippet. The Focus Keyword has your main keyword (and possibly other words that are not the focus keyword with it), in the title, also.
A quick way to find if you have enough of the main keyword is to hold the CTRL key and then the “f” key. This should bring up another window, usually on the right. Type in the word you want to search for and hit “Enter.”
When I put “Rank Math” in that window, it showed that I had 10/16 at this point. It checks the left and right menu, the page and even the title at the top of your article. They are all highlighted and very easy to find. You can add 4 other additional ones, which do count in the total. The goal is to have 1.0 to 1.5 from all keywords. Your main keyword (or phrase) needs to be in the title, headings and content.
General Keywords Knowledge FAQs
- How do I find a keyword or phrase? Think about what you would use to search for a specific subject. That’s the first idea. You may yet be too vague (Ex: money). Try again. Ask Google for help.
- What’s a long-tail keyword? Long-tails are 3-5 words and easy to rank.
- If we don’t count the number of times a keyword is used, just how do we make them green? Google and SEOs want more conversational language and content quality rather than total numbers. Would you leave out an ingredient in a recipe? No. If you talk about a subject, you have a specific idea of what you want to cover. Make a quick list of what you want so you have continuity in your “conversation.” (Maybe even ask AI for an outline on your subject. Use the idea, not the exact wording from AI!)
- Could I change them after I started my page? It’s interesting that you ask that, because I did do that with one of mine. It made it better.
- How do I find a decent phrase that’s not overused? (See video)
Why Won’t They Turn GREEN?
To get those Keywords to turn green, consider using any or all of these hints.
For each additional one keyword–
- Include it in at least one subheading (H2, H3, or H4)
- Make sure you have it appear in the first 10 percent of your content
- Include it naturally in one Image alt text
- Vary the use of it all the way through your content
Optimal content length in an article–
- At this time, Google AdSense likes to see 800-1200 words on an article page
- 1000 and greater for unusual or controversial subjects
Keyword Density Guide–
- Your Main Keyword should be 0.5 up to 1.5 depending on the amount of content.
- Secondary ones are in the 0.3 to 1.0 spot. Control “f” helps find what you search for.
- An EXAMPLE: In a 1000-word page, the main keyword should go from 5-25 times and secondary keywords are 3-10 times each.
Keep track of what works for you–you are the author!
- Note if the secondary keywords are “missing a piece of the puzzle.”
- Each needs to appear early in the content.
- Make sure your images are relevant and have optimized alt text. (Not just the main keyword. Important for those with vision issues.)
If you need to, give yourself a simple checklist of how you were able to get them green!
Green keywords in text and alt text images can multiply your traffic. (I know my Ageless Beauty and Tips for All page is all green.) That’s why Possibilities exist because each keyword has a different audience group. You have increased your ad results, exposed another segment of your audience to your site, and are building your potential authority in more than one area.
Please realize that getting to the 80’s in Rank Math is an indication of your learning skills. I started out at the 71+ level and increased as I learned the process. Be happy with the 70 or 71 when you start. You can understand the skill as you improve. The scores for me have gradually improved from the 70’s into the 80’s scores. It should for you, too.
FAQs
1. Why do I see question marks next to RankMath’s item list in the sidebar?
They are there to help you understand that specific item. So, click on it because it has “broken-down” the steps and gives examples to assist your understanding.
2. Why doesn’t RankMath scores increase after all the suggested changes are done?
RankMath is that “picky teacher” you had in school. Check to see if you forgot to write in the (Meta Description) Edit Snippet, for example. Try to use at least two words together in your secondary keywords: use “achieving dreams,” not “dreams.” Maybe you need to divide a paragraph (only 120 words for each) and even add another heading. Remember to SAVE, too.
3. What score do I want for my pages?
Sometimes it depends on the type of page you write. If it is one with many facts, figures or graphs, it may be difficult to get out of the 70’s. If it’s a personal-type page or a subject you know about (fishing), then it will be easy to score that 81 = green level or higher.
If you don’t know anything about a subject, educate yourself or pick someone else’s brain for your research. The internet does make it easier. IF you use an AI, DON’T copy word for word. Re-word the idea in your own words, don’t use the AI’s words or the em and en dashes. Use contractions, just like you talk. Example of what not to use is “It is not true.”
We are looking for original content from you, not repetition. The words need to come from your own brain. No one talks or writes like you do. The author is the author-ity, not the AI responses.
