Kitchen Gadgets and Gifts

Kitchen Gadgets and Gifts. I grew up in a household where the kitchen was the happening place. It was crammed full of items that started out as a mystery to me. It also included anyone who could fit into the kitchen on Saturday night. (This made it cozy!)

My Mother, Daddy, their kids, grandkids (both girls/boys) when they came along and my (“adopted” into the family) Aunt Ruth and Aunt Hazel were all there. Everybody had a cup of coffee or sweet tea. We kids always leaned against the lower cabinets. We hung around the doorway, too, just wanting to be included in the happenings. Even though we weren’t part of the conversation, we loved enjoying everyone’s company.

One evening, the subject matter was on recipes. That started a gaggle (my Daddy’s word) of conversation. That continued the whole evening with words I wasn’t familiar with: thing-a-ma-bob, doo-dad, whats-it, in a jiffy (guessed that one) and even “the bee’s knees.” As I grew older, I understood they substituted some of those words for specific gadgets in the kitchen. I also understood that the last two in the list described how they felt about the recipes they discussed that night.

So, reel forward into today’s world and see if any of those words apply to our kitchen gadgets and gifts area. The kitchen has to be one of the most organized rooms in the house. From the Cordless Portable Electric Mini Food Chopper to the Kitchen Mama this is the place to find a “doo-dad.”

Kitchen Gadgets and Gifts-Kitchen Mama for use in microwave cleaning

Nothing went into our kitchen unless it was really useful and cut the preparation, cooking or cleaning time. So, one of our first “necessary” items was that Kitchen Mama for the microwave. I cleaned the microwave. I found it much easier with that Kitchen Mama. Mother thought it necessary, but I didn’t let her know that I didn’t mind cleaning the microwave in this way!

Kitchen Gadgets and Gifts Bargains

This isn’t all that you are going to find in Kitchen Gadgets and Gifts. You will find a plethora (Daddy’s word, again) of bargains. You will find a bargain, such as the Stainless Steel Scraper and Chopper. I used this tool after Mother received it and I gave it a “thumbs up.” When I found out that there were several other styles, I asked her where she had found it. I discovered that she had found it online here. In addition, there were 5 other styles. It didn’t matter what you needed, this catalog had it covered with choices! I love choices.

I really found it easy to use, but it was that I am left-handed. This tool was for either hand! When I find a tool that works for my left-handedness it is heaven. In addition, most kitchens are set up for right-handed people of the world. We lefties are “left” bumping our elbows in the kitchen workspace. Therefore, I did most of my work on the kitchen table.

This brings me to the tablecloth Mother used in the Kitchen. I found it in this catalog. Now, I know her secret about these gadgets she had been receiving these past years. We all liked the tablecloth, including Aunt Ruth and Aunt Hazel. Mother had made sure this last Christmas they each had their own.

Direct-to-Consumer Catalog Shopping

Thus, after I married, I figured I could even give my Mother-in-law one of these gifts from the catalog. Shopping made easy, since I could pick and choose what gift I wanted to send her way. The best part was, I didn’t have to go out to the store. I was able to send it directly to her from my armchair! That was my surprise for her. I bookmarked the page, too, (ctrl+D) since I saw some other things that interested me.

More Shopping For Family

I won’t give away any more gifts I choose, in case one of the family looks this site up. It seems I found something for a lot of my family.

Later, my soon-to-be teenager (male) had taken a liking to being in the Kitchen. I really thought it was because he was going through HLS–hollow leg syndrome–what we called it in our family. Sometimes it was double HLS, too.

Anyway, he was pretty good in the kitchen, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t messy. There were four styles of prints for aprons, but I was careful since he is color-blind. If the pattern already made my eyes do jumps, I stayed away from that pattern. So, my choice had been the black with white stripes. I think he’ll enjoy it for his birthday.

I can blame my Mother. She started it!
