Arts and Museums Share. Art is more than painting–it can be a personal interest that brings you pleasure. Museums share many arts. For instance, my personal pleasure is music. From early years in school, I participated in band. Besides, marching in home football games and parades kept me busy on weekends. Then, there was the yearly solo competition. I still have those medals that I earned.
This expanded my life experiences and allowed me to become more well-rounded. I was also able to visit several local museums that gave me insight into the coal mining done in this area. Additionally, our local post office in Eldorado, IL has a mural painted on one wall of the “goings on” of coal mining. Painting is only one medium of almost two dozen aspects of “ART” that exists in our world.
If I knew someone who connected with a local museum, I would ask about it and then visit that museum. In addition, there is a unique museum–an open air museum–the Saline County Area Museum located in Harrisburg, IL. That is, they combine the idea of arts and museums share with live action actors.
Arts and Museums Share Well-Rounded Quilter
In this same location, they also have local quilt shows. Can you name the pattern in the picture? My mother, Averil Dean Mathis, was a very talented woman in the textile arena. She developed quilting lessons for classes and used them to teach at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg (IL).
Her interests included the Aladdin Knights and the Aladdin Lamp Collectors group. For many years, she gathered quilt squares on which ladies embroidered and depicted the Aladdin Lamps. Averil then presented the finished quilt for raffling. In addition to quilting gifts for her family, she enjoyed the research used in authoring “Antique and Collectible Thimbles and Accessories” (1991, 3rd printing).
She received a commission as a Kentucky Colonel in 1987 for outstanding achievement in textiles. In 1988 she became accepted as a member of the National League of American Pen Women. She entered in the Department of Letters category. Her family and friends treasure all of the gifts that she gave.
As computers became a daily convenience, quilters started using computer programming to construct their own patterns around 2000. Many small towns in Southern Illinois have local museums where quilt shows display such women’s (and men’s) talents. Paducah, Kentucky has finished a Quilt Show this past April, 2023. Interested in quilts? Check out their quilt museum here. Looking for new ideas? You can also look into The Smithsonian Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY.
Arts and Museums Share Art in Books, Books, Books
Reading is a pleasure I discovered over the years. But, firstly is fiction and secondly is romance. Any author. (But, my old eyes dislike fine print.) As a result, I found another writer in the same league as Twain. Clive Cussler. His “word pictures” are outstanding. My hands glued to the book. Consequently, sleepless nights came with this author. His adventures take me around the world. There were times that I was holding my breath, too. I was immersed in the action! He is an outstanding serial writer.
The “art” in books is your ability to imagine. I know I read with intensity and imagination because I leave reality. When I was younger, my sister finally shook my shoulder to get my attention. I had not heard her call my name four times! In other words, that comic book was engrossing! To sum up, pick an author you don’t know or try audio or electronic versions. To quote, “Reading is fun.”
Conclusion
Art, then can be a very personal vocation just for you or it may result in a product that you offer to consumers, such as a book. You may want to teach others how to learn your skill as Averil did. Most have a great passion and expertise of skill and knowledge they are willing to share. Finally, be creative. It is enjoyable and educational!
You may want to take an actual trip of your own and have Savings and Benefits to various museums in other states or countries. I want to go to the Grand Canyon, just to see what Mother Nature has done over the years. There is a skywalk…glass bottom…..on a cliff……..
